Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq (radiy-Allahu 'anhu)
Close Friend, Father-in-Law and First Successor of the Prophet (salla-Llaahu 'alyhi wa-sallam)
"If you help him (Muhammad) not (it does not matter), for Allah did indeed help him when the disbelievers drove him out, the second of the two; when they (Muhammad and Abu Bakr) were in the cave, he said to his companion (Abu Bakr): "Be not sad (or afraid), surely, Allah is with us." Then Allah sent down His divine peace upon him, and strengthened him with forces (angels) which you saw not, and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowermost, while it was the Word of Allah that became the uppermost; and Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise." Qur'an 9:40.
Abu Bakr, the first of the four righteous caliphs, and the first man to embrace and accept Islam from the Prophet (salla-Llaahu 'alyhi wa-sallam). In the verse above from Chapter 9 (the Repentance) of the Holy Qur'an, we find three references to our hero, Abu Bakr. The context reveals the special personality of our hero, as he was the sole human support to the Prophet (salla-Llaahu 'alyhi wa-sallam) at that darkest and most dangerous moment in his life, when all the pagan Makkans were after him seeking his destruction. Abu Bakr had unlimited loyalty and unfaltering faith in the Prophet that earned our hero the title AL-SIDDIQ, which means the true believing person or the person who never doubted anything the Prophet (salla-Llaahu 'alyhi wa-sallam) said. This title was given to him by Muhammad (salla-Llaahu 'alyhi wa-sallam). Abu Bakr had a generous nature, he was a very meek and soft-hearted person, he was very strict and firm in word and action. We should try and implement this and try and create these qualities in our characters and lives.
